Programs Manager

APIAVote is hiring a candidate who has a background in organizing and has experience managing campaign initiatives, GOTV events and large-scale events. This is a full time permanent position with a compensation and benefits package.
 
LOCATION: For immediate hire in Washington, DC.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage APIAVote initiatives by tracking deadlines, creating and maintaining punchlists and assisting team members in managing the process;
  • Work in conjunction with the Programs Associate to develop APIAVote’s Ambassador curriculum and facilitation of the program;
  • Create workshop proposals and present at various conferences;
  • Support the Executive Director in developing relationships with funders, community partners and campuses and universities;
  • Conduct training across the country for new leaders and volunteers to implement specific campus based program to boost youth engagement;
  • Manage the APIAVote internship program;
  • Track finances and consolidate receipts with monthly credit card statements;
  • Manage and provide logistical support to APIAVote’s event and  programs including the Norman Y. Mineta Leadership trainings and fundraising events;
  • Assist National Field Director with voter file management (VAN) and phone banking efforts;
  • Manage administrative duties as assigned, including but not limited to: updating organizational standard operating procedures, coordinating meetings, and answering general inquiries;
  • Contribute to special projects and other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Expertise in community organizing strategy and tactics, preferably in non-partisan issue based organizing and grassroots activism
  • Experience in large-scale event planning and execution.  
  • Solid understanding of and experience with social media and digital campaigns
  • Experience as an organizer and track record in coordinating a number of programs simultaneously
  • Detail oriented yet have the ability to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well on a team
  • Proven ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Committed to the mission and goals of APIAVote, and actively practices inclusion and understanding the diverse needs of the AAPI community
  • Strong supporter of coalition building
  • Eager, curious, and capable of learning quickly; ideally interested in pursuing a career in nonprofits.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of initiatives and capable of working independently to achieve short-term and long-term goals
  • Results-driven, excellent time- and project-management skills, ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail in meeting ongoing responsibilities
  • Capable of working independently to achieve short- and long-term goals
  • Ability to remain calm and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Action oriented and enjoys using one’s general problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Google Apps, Microsoft Office,
  • Proficiency in Adobe creative suite is preferred
  • Previous campaign experience is a plus

Internships

Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that encourages and promotes civic participation of Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in the electoral and public policy processes at the national, state and local levels. APIAVote envisions a society in which all AAPIs fully participate in and have access to the democratic process.
 
The APIAVote Internship Program strives to encourage and cultivate young AAPI student leaders to explore a career in the public sector or the political arena. This internship program will also provide hands on experience and training on how to organize and implement voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral process.
 
For the summer of 2019, we are offering both paid and unpaid internships based in Washington, D.C. If you are interested in remote, unpaid internships throughout the year, please apply as well. Our spring, fall, and winter internships are unpaid.  Applications are taken on a rolling basis.

INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE
The internship program is tailored per organizational needs and intern skills. Interns may work on any of the following areas:
  • Communications/Social Media (new media and traditional),
  • Graphic Design,
  • Field (working with APIAVote partners to mobilize for elections),
  • Research and Policy (research and advocate for policy recommendations),
  • Training (Norman Y. Mineta Leadership Training Institute), or
  • Youth (engaging and organizing our youth coalitions)
In addition, applicants selected for these internships will collectively work on the implementation of APIAVote’s YouthVote campaign. This will include identifying, recruiting, and training student organizers to implement voter engagement activities and developing campaign materials for 2019.
 
Paid summer internships receive a stipend of $2,500. The internship must be held for 10 weeks, but with a flexible start date. 
 
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL INTERNSHIP APPLICANTS:
  • College or graduate student
  • Leadership abilities
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Dedicated to promoting civic participation of AAPIs in the electoral and public policy processes
